The personnel of the Finnish Hanhikivi-1 NPP will undergo an internship at Leningrad NPP

Instructors of Fennovoima Oy (Finland) visited the Training Department (TD) of Leningrad NPP. The Finnish guests learned how to train operational personnel for the new VVER-1200 power units.

“We discussed the structure of the TD, the amount of theoretical and practical training of the NPP personnel, the TD material and technical basis and much more. The Russian approach to operational personnel training differs from the Finnish one. However, the experience of our Russian colleagues interested us. We might use some practices and methods of personnel training for Hanhikivi NPP, as the Finnish power unit will be built after the same project as the new Leningrad ones”, Fennovoima Oy instructor Vatslav Veiborniy said.

His colleague Kari Leinonen added, “We like the full-scale simulator for training and maintaining the NPP personnel skills. It allows them to hone their knowledge and skills for safe power unit management. The simulator’s interface is user-friendly; the color indicators are very helpful. We will take this into account when creating a simulator for Hanhikivi NPP.”

According to the Head of the NPP Personnel Training Department of RAOS Project Oy Victoria Zhuravleva, the Finnish part was mainly interested in the training of operational personnel. At the moment a pilot training at LNPP is being discussed. “We expect to continue cooperation with LNPP and to consider the individual issues of staff training in more detail”, she added.

“Finland is one of many countries where the projects of innovative Russian power units with VVER reactors are successfully implemented or are planned for implementation. Rosatom State Corporation both builds the safest and most reliable power units and provides assistance in the entire infrastructure creation for them in such countries as Belarus, Turkey, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, China and others. This also includes specialist training for the new foreign nuclear power plants. At the same time, we offer our foreign partners ready-made projects, and develop training programs that take into account our clients’ opinions and needs”, Yulia Nazarova, the Head of the Project Office for Human Resources Management for Rosenergoatom's international operations, explained.

Leningrad NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom. The Plant is located at the town of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km west of St. Petersburg on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. LNPP is the first plant in the country with RBMK-1000 reactors (thermal-neutron heat-pipe cooled uranium-graphite nuclear reactors). The NPP operates four power units with an electric capacity of 1,000 MW each. The first unit of replacement capacities with VVER-1200 reactor is at the physical start-up stage, the second VVER-1200 type unit is under construction. Rosenergoatom  JSC is the customer-developer of the project, ATOMPROEKT JSC is the general designer, and CONTSERN TITAN-2 JSC is the general contractor.
