Technological branch: a high-voltage verification laboratory of the Industry Metrology Centre has started operating

As a part of the program to create a high-voltage verification laboratory of the Scientific Research Industry Centre for Metrology (HVVL SRICM), the stage of its operation has now begun. The goal of the stage is to gain experience in the practical use of verification complexes and to develop methods for providing verification using unique reference equipment.

The High-Voltage Verification Laboratory of the SRICM as a specialized unit was established at Rosenergoatom Technological Branch in 2017 with the aim to improve its level of technical safety during verification and to optimize its spendings for metrological support of the automated information and measurement systems for electric power fiscal metering.

In 2018, the Laboratory specialists have verified current and voltage measuring transformers from the fiscal metering systems of Rostov, Novovoronezh, Balakovo, and Leningrad NPPs. As a result of the unique reference equipment use, they have confirmed the claimed performance characteristics, which allowed to conduct verification of high-voltage measuring transformers with high level of safety and reliability.

At the 11th International Scientific and Technical Conference “Safety, Efficiency and Economy of Nuclear Energy” (ISTC-2018) organized by Rosenergoatom in May the mobile laboratory aroused high participants’ interest. The experts were interested in modern technical solutions used to create the MIVN-750 high-voltage power supply unit, the DN-750pt reference composite voltage divider, as well as the unique equipment layout that allowed to place all the HVVL equipment at the base of a low-tonnage vehicle. The experts’ special attention was given to the possibility of using a reference optical current transformer with an openable optical loop, which makes it possible to implement methods for checking bus current transformers without technological interventions in the design of the generator busbars at the places of their operation.

The creation of a high-voltage verification laboratory makes it possible to improve the efficiency of metrological support for automated information and measurement systems for electric power fiscal metering, including reducing the costs of the maintenance through the work performed by Rosenergoatom JSC and the use of the described technologies.

The Company management noted the promise of carrying out measuring transformers verification not only at the industry enterprises, but also in the new markets.
