Leningrad NPP will train instructors for the Hungarian NPP Paks-2

A meeting with the administration of the Hungarian company MVM Paks-2 – that acquired a license to develop a construction site for two new power units to be built by Rosatom State Corporation under the Russian project of 3+ generation VVER-1200 reactors – was held at Leningrad NPP. The purpose of this foreign visit was a preliminary meeting and discussion of the issues of Paksh-2 instructors’ training at the premises of the Training Department of Leningrad NPP under construction.

Janos Cizcer, the Director for Operations at MVM Paks-II (Hungary), “The construction works preparing the site for future nuclear power units should begin in 2018; but at this moment we are ready to discuss the training for our instructors at Leningrad NPP. Right now we are talking about the training of 40 Hungarian specialists, who will then transfer the acquired knowledge to the personnel of Paks-2 NPP. But in the future it is possible that their number may grow to 50. We plan to work out all organizational issues and the training program for our instructors in detail to then begin the process of nuclear plant operational personnel training.”

As part of the working visit to Leningrad NPP, the administration of the Hungarian company MVM Paks-2 carried out a technical tour to the construction site of the new power units and also visited the full-scale simulator of Leningrad NPP Training Department.

“The meeting was organized on the initiative of the Hungarian side, since 2019 the site of Leningrad NPP will be visited by the specialists from Hungary, who will complete the training course. Our task is to provide the qualitative training for these specialists”, Anatoliy Smirnov, the Head of the Training Department of Leningrad NPP-2, commented on the event.

Roman Kritskiy, the Head of the Project for the Personnel Training Department of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, “I want to note that Rosenergoatom Concern has a lot of experience in training foreign specialists. At the beginning of 2018, we expect the training of the first groups of employees from Bangladeshi Ruppur NPP to start. In the near future, it is planned to start training specialists from Finland, Turkey, Iran and Egypt.” 

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
