Rostov NPP: at the starting power unit No 4 of Rostov NPP the review of the reactor unit equipment is coming to an end

At the power unit No 4 of Rostov NPP the specialists of operational services have proceeded to the final stage of the reactor unit (RU) main equipment review.

“At the moment we review the in-vessel internals of the reactor unit. Earlier, the whole preoperational testing complex was carried out. The primary and secondary circuit systems were tested for overpressure; the main circulating pumps were tested at nominal parameters of reactor unit; the power supply systems of auxiliaries were checked. Also, the comprehensive check of reactor control and safety system of reactor unit was carried out”, the Head of the Reactor Shop of Phase II of Rostov NPP Oleg Vysotskiy noted.

Upon the completion of the review of the reactor unit main equipment Rostekhnadzor commission will carry out the targeted comprehensive inspection of the power unit No 4 of Rostov NPP. As the results of this inspection the commission will grant the permission for the physical start-up of the new power unit.

Earlier, in the turbine island of power unit No 4 all main preparations for physical start-up were conducted: the turbine barring, the circulating pumps tests, and vacuum build-up were carried out. The main and auxiliary equipment review has started on 17 October and has been carried out in accordance with the preparation plan of power unit No 4 for physical start-up.

Rostov NPP’s power unit No 4 start-up is scheduled for 2017. 

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
