Leningrad NPP: at the power unit No 1 under construction the adjustment of detectors of radiation control automation system is in progress

At Leningrad NPP’s first power unit under construction the assembly and commissioning of the radiation control automation system (RCAS) equipment are in progress: engineering supervisors of the enterprise-manufacturer of the equipment carried out the autonomous adjustment of more than 100 detectors located at the power unit in the number required for the physical start-up.

According to the Chief of the Radiation Safety Department of Leningrad NPP under construction Sergey Ilichev, the autonomous adjustment proved that all the detectors were assembled in the full concordance with the works’ schedule, “There are no defects caused by detectors’ assembly. Electric wiring was installed in a proper manner, and phase sequence was properly carried out. Input and output signals work correctly. We can proceed to the next stage – the complex adjustment of the radiation control automation system.”

The RCAS is the information and measurement system providing all the types of radiation control at the NPP. With its help we can carry out the continuous online monitoring and analysis of radiation condition of the Nuclear Power Plant and its nearby territory, as well as to predict the possible failures of the main technological equipment of the power unit.

Working in the information exchange mode with PCSs (process control systems) of the power unit the system of radiation control provides obtaining and processing of the information on the monitored parameters at all the operation modes of the NPP including the project and non-project accidents, as well as the condition of the Nuclear Power Plant after the power unit decommissioning.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
