The WANO technical support mission on improving the personnel performance system has ended at Kalinin NPP

Basic principles and practical methods of conducting observations of the personnel operational activity at Kalinin NPP working places were the subjects of study and analysis of the technical support mission of the Moscow Center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) held at the Nuclear Plant on 4-8 September, 2017.

A mission consisting of experts from Kozloduy NPP (Bulgaria), Rivne NPP (Ukraine), Smolensk NPP (the RF) and the WANO Moscow Center was conducted at the request of the Company. This is not an inspection survey, but a joint, two-sided work with the purpose to raise the Nuclear Plant's activity to an even higher level.

The experts together with the NPP specialists made round-abouts of the premises and examined the equipment of the Centralized Repair Shop, reactor workshop No 2, and turbine shop No 1. They monitored the personnel of the Plant doing survey of the production premises.

According to the adviser of the WANO MC Galim Musin, the organization of an NPP work monitoring is now relevant for any nuclear power plant around the world.

According to the WANO representatives, the technical support mission at Kalinin NPP will help the specialists to acquire new experience and to apply it in practice. This will improve the personnel performance system and will have positive effects on the Plant’s overall safety level. “We’ve met 100% openness, the desire to work, cooperate, the urge to learn new things”, the experts said.

In turn, the Manager of Kalinin NPP Viktor Ignatov thanked the team of experts for their work, noting the importance of the recommendations provided by them for further improving the safety culture at the plant.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
