Rostov NPP: at the power unit No 4 one of the most important commissioning stages – a pipeline hydrotesting in the reactor room has started

At the starting power unit No 4 of Rostov NPP specialists have proceeded to one of the most important processes of commissioning operations – the pipelines hydrotesting and circulation flushing (HT and CF) at the reactor room (RR).

Within the scheduled hydrotesting, we will create the pressure of 35 kg/sq cm at the primary circuit, and then the pressure of 20 kg/sq at the secondary circuit. These parameters are required for quality testing of the reactor assembly and technological pipelines. The next stage of the HT and CF is testing the pipelines at the higher parameters.

“The HT and CF stage is the mandatory and well defined process that is carried out within the preparation of a power unit to a start-up. Then the schedule of the tests includes the pressure buildup to 250 kg/sq cm at the primary circuit and to 110 kg/sq cm at the secondary one. In the following the testing will be carried out at performance parameters”, the Head of the Rector Shop of Phase II Rostov NPP Oleg Vysotskiy noted.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
