The assembly of the main steam valve units for the VVER-1200 safety trains is completed at the power unit No 1 of Leningrad NPP under construction

The assembly of four main steam valve units has been completed within the equipment preparation for the hot trials at the site of the first start-up facility of Leningrad NPP under construction. This equipment is a part of the safety system; and it is assembled inside the secondary circuit steam system of the VVER-reactor power units.

The main function of the valve units is to isolate the steam generator during emergencies associated with steam lines ruptures, leaks from the primary to the secondary circuit, as well as prevention of excess pressure in steam generators and live steam lines at NPPs.

“The equipment for all four safety trains was assembled by the specialists of MSU-90 JSC, TITAN-2 CONCERN JSC, Kirovskiy Zavod OJSC and our Department personnel”, the Head of the Central Maintenance Department of Leningrad NPP under construction Vladimir Shtatskiy said. “After the mechanical assembly of the steam valve units is completed, the specialists will begin electrical installation of this equipment, during which the control valve actuators will be connected, and then commissioning will begin.”

The completion of the assembly of all four units is one of the conditions to begin one responsible operation – hydraulic test of the secondary circuit – which will take place during the preparation for the reactor hot trials at the first power unit of Leningrad NPP under construction.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
