The best divisions in terms of fire safety have been determined at Smolensk NPP

The results of the contest for the best division of the nuclear power plant in terms of fire safety in 2010 have been summarized at Smolensk NPP.

In the first group of the competitors (main divisions) the following were determined the best: turbine department (1st place), centralized repair department (2nd place), supporting system department (3rd place). In the second group (departments) the 1st place was occupied by radiation safety departments, the 2nd  – nuclear safety and reliability departments, the 3rd – metrology department. The results were estimated by facility fire safety commission chaired by the chief engineer.

According to Head of the SNPP fire safety sector Maxim Ardashev, such contests are organized at the nuclear power plant every year and aimed at improvement of the quality of work in the field of fire safety.

Participation of divisions in the traditional competition among volunteer fire brigades is another advantage for the competitors (last year 31 teams from different departments and divisions of the plant took part in the competition). All results are taken into consideration when summarizing the contest results.

Divisions which had been determined the winners were awarded certificates of honor, the staff which had actively taken part in fire safety improvement, got material reward.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Every year SNPP supplies to the country electric power system at the average about 20 bln kilowatt-hours of electric power equal to almost 13% of power generated in Rosenergoatom Concern and to more than 80% of that generated by the power plants of Smolensk region.

Timely information about the radiation environment near Russian NPPs and other objects of the nuclear industry is available in the site www.russianatom.ru.
