Rostov NPP: 10 years ago power unit No.1 began to supply electric power to the Unified Energy System of the country

This very day 10 years ago - on March 30 2001, at 8:47 a.m. turbine generator No.1 of Rostov NPP was connected to the Unified Energy System of Russia. Rostov nuclear power plant began to generate current for the benefit of the country. On April 2, the plant personnel generated the first million kWh of electric power so far, and on April 16 the generation reached 100 million kWh of electric power. Thanks to Rostov NPP, the South of Russia has forgotten about rotating blackouts.

Today Rostov NPP operates two power units, units Nos. 3 and 4 are under construction. Ten years of operation helped the plant to build up the reputation of a reliable, conscientious and safe producer of electric power.

The decade of safe and reliable operation of Rostov NPP, commissioned in the new century, in New Russia, in new economical conditions, have also proved the fact that Russian nuclear workers are able to implement the government program, upgrade it and realize major plans for nuclear power plant construction.

As of March 29 2011, since its commissioning, Rostov NPP has generated almost 83 billion kW-hours of electric power.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. The plant operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Power unit No.1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, power unit No. 2 – in December of 2010. Power units Nos. 3 and 4 are being constructed.
