Rosenergoatom Concern production meeting has been conducted at Smolensk NPP

Rosenergoatom Concern production meeting has been conducted at Smolensk NPP in Desnogorsk of Smolensk region. Representatives of the central office headed by Acting Director of the Concern for NPP production and operation Oleg Chernikov, as well as Director of Smolensk NPP Andrey Petrov, Heads of the plant divisions, contracting organizations and design institutes discussed business issues in the field of lifetime extension of SNPP power units.

Opening the meeting, Oleg Chernikov emphasized that the established working group of the Concern was to organized support for Smolensk nuclear power plant at the final stage of power unit No. 1 modernization. The meeting participants also reviewed similar problems concerning the second and the third power units.

The second power unit of Smolensk NPP is to be shut down for long-term scheduled overhaul at the end of 2011. Now is the time of making contracts for manufacture and supply of equipment and execution of installation and construction works, project documentation development. The main works at the third power unit will be carried out five years prior to the expiration of its design lifetime. In spite of the time reserve, the investment project concerning modernization of reactor protection and control system has been already developed.

Implementation of decisions taken as a result of the meeting will make it possible to carry out repair of power unit No. 1 within the established deadlines, improve preparation to lifetime extension of power units Nos. 2 and 3.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Every year SNPP supplies to the country electric power system at the average about 20 bln kilowatt-hours of electric power equal to almost 13% of power generated in Rosenergoatom Concern and to more than 80% of that generated by the power plants of Smolensk region.
