Kola NPP complies with all safety requirements

From March 28 to April 1, 2011 Commissions of Don Interregional Territorial Administration of Rostekhnadzor and Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC performed an inspection of Kola NPPХs activity in the field of safety control at the plant.

According to the experts, the inspection showed that the examined areas of Kola NPP complied with all safety requirements and criteria.

Summarizing the technical inspection results, Head of the Commission, representative of the Safety Control and Production Department of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Yevgeny Shvetsov said that the emergency preparedness of Kola nuclear power plant was at an acceptable level, and the activities and surveys scheduled at the nuclear power plant were completely implemented.

The inspection was held in accordance with the Program of Safety Checks of Russian Nuclear Power Plants, developed by Rosatom State Corporation and the decision taken by the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Power unit No.1 of Kola NPP was commissioned in 1973. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 mW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
