Kalinin NPP: common plant training

On March 29, 2011, an unscheduled common plant emergency response drill was held at Kalinin NPP. The goal of this training was to examine and practice to perfection the activities of Kalinin NPP personnel actions, fire and medical departments in case of total de-energization of NPP power unit auxiliaries with fire occurrence and presence of the injured.


The unscheduled common plant training was held by the order of Rosatom State Corporation, and was aimed at personnel activity check in case of contingency situation at the NPP. The next common plant training is scheduled on April 5, 2011.

Currently, three Kalinin NPP power units are in operating condition. The radiation background at the NPP location area and adjacent territory is at the level, corresponding to normal operation of NPP power units and it does not exceed the natural background level.

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated in the north of Tver region in Udomlya district. Kalinin nuclear power plant comprises three operating power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) of 1,000 mW capacity each. Power unit No. 4 is under construction now and is to be commissioned in 2011.
