Kalininskaya nuclear power plant: all four generating units are operating in a normal mode

At 21:33 of July 20, 2019 electric generating unit No. 2 of Kalininskaya nuclear power plant reached its nominal capacitance of 1,000 MW. Thus, the operation of all the three electric generating units that had been de-energized because of the closed-circuit fault, which happened on July 18, 2019 on the bus arrangement of one of the current transformers of outdoor switchgear of Kalininskaya nuclear power plant, was restored.

As previously reported, electric generating unit No. 4 was connected to the power line the same night; on July, 19 electric generating unit No. 1 was added and finally the next day (today) electric generating unit No. 2 as well.

Currently, all electric generating units of Kalininskaya nuclear power plant are operating. Their total load makes 4,172 MW. There are no breakdowns or malfunctions in the operation of Kalininskaya nuclear power plant.

Radiation background at the plant and on the off-site area remains unchanged, corresponds to normal operation of electric generating units and indicators stay within natural background radiation values of 8–12 µR/hr.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the Rosenergoatom. The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
