Rostov NPP: Rostekhnadzor has started checking the readiness of the power unit No 4 for the physical launch

On 13 November, 2017, the last pre-launch targeted comprehensive inspection of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia (Rostekhnadzor) has been started at Rostov NPP power unit No 4.

It will last until 20 November. The inspectors will check the Plant in several areas: staff readiness, system readiness, and unit readiness.

The positive conclusion of Rostekhnadzor’s targeted commission will mean the power unit’s complete readiness to the beginning of the physical launch stage, i.е. to loading the assemblies with nuclear fuel into the reactor.

Currently, in accordance with the physical start-up preparation plan for a power unit, the specialists of Atomtekhenergo OJSC and the curators of the customer service of Rostov NPP carry out an audit of the main and auxiliary equipment of the reactor unit’s primary and secondary circuits at the power unit No 4. As part of the audit, we are preparing the system safety trains for putting into operation.

Rostov NPP’s power unit No 4 start-up is scheduled for 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
